Final Thesis

1. My final thesis for my research paper is that media has created a shift in religion's role in the American publics life, because of both the nature of the media and its portrayal of religion in the news.

2. I need to discuss exactly how postmodern media has displaced religion. I will show how media directly competes with religion as a role for values, how it has changed religion's meaning, and how it slants religion's image in the news.

3. My sources are primary news articles and journals that examine religion. These articles provide statistics, mainly in surveys, of various ideas related to religion. My book sources both analyze religion in the modern era.

4. My favorite source is a book, "quoting God: How Media Shape Ideas about Religion and Culture." The editor provides excellent information, quotes, and opinions on religion in the modern era. The book consists of many different viewpoints from "religious experts."

5. One interesting thing I learned is the growing difference between the terms "spirituality" and "religion." While religion signifies values and beliefs, spirituality is being used to replace that with ideas of experimentation and choice. America has cited an increase in a need for "spirituality", not religion.

Overall, my paper is going real well and I'm having a great time writing it.

Reseach paper topic and thesis

My research paper topic is going to be on religion and the media and how the two influence one another.

Thesis
1. In today's day and age, nothing can stop popular culture from abusing religion, be it on television through satire or how famous icons use their own religious ideals.

2. The role of religion in people's lives is being challenged indirectly by mass media. (what I mean by this is that religion used to play a prominent role in the developing of values. nowadays, value systems can be derived simply by the programming we watch or the news we read).

Just a note, apparently I've been creating brand new blogs whenever we had to do them. I guess that explains why this page is still blank with the exception of my test post from back in the day.
